Tecta America Responds to Hurricane Katrina Roofing Needs

Roof Overhead is Top Priority in Disaster Response

SKOKIE, IL., September 19, 2005 - While Chicago may seem far from Hurricane Katrina's devastation in the Gulf region, Skokie based Tecta America Corporation, the nation's largest commercial roofing company, provides the expertise, manpower and high-demand resources required by its clients as they begin their rebuild and repair efforts. With a nationwide network of 47 locations and a workforce of more than 3000 employees, hundreds of Tecta roofing experts have been called to the Gulf from cities throughout the nation. Currently Tecta teams from Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis are in place, with more on the way.

In early August, as experts predicted this year's hurricane season could be the worst since 1933, each of Tecta's divisions across the country prepared for the potential deluge, ready to mobilize whatever was needed with a disaster response plan that is the strongest in the industry. As Hurricane Katrina hit, Tecta quickly established its base of operation in Hattiesburg, MS, with its Southeast based division, Construction Services, heading its efforts. Tecta's early preparation meant quick relief for its area customers.

Many buildings suffered significant roof damage, even in the areas that had no flood damage. Because Tecta clients include military bases, schools, hospitals, hotels and private businesses, all necessary to the health and well-being of the impacted areas, a timely and complete response is vitally important.

"Planning is critical. Our clients rely on us to get their facilities operational as quickly as possible. It's exceptionally challenging due to the magnitude of the situation, but we had crews working in New Orleans by Friday after Katrina hit," said Tecta America CEO, Mark Santacrose, of their recent relief efforts.

Over the past three years, Tecta teams have responded to emergencies including hurricanes, hailstorms, tornadoes and typhoons across the U.S., as well as in Grand Cayman, Bermuda and Guam.  This experience helps the crews as they handle the logistics of roofing in difficult conditions, which sometimes resemble a war zone, like the aftermath of Katrina, where roads are impassible, communications are down, and power is often non-existent.

Immediately following Katrina, Tecta America Corp. established a program, which invited employees to participate in a financial contribution to the National Roofing Foundation's special roofing relief fund, Rebuilding Together, with funds collected to be used solely to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Tecta America has agreed to match these funds, dollar-for-dollar, with a goal of raising $100,000.
